Don't Drink and Fry & Other Ponderings

I have a lot on my mind and my wise and wonderful mother advised me to share it all in a blog, so here goes.

I'm restless. I've just had an incredible Christmas and New Year, actually an incredible 2007 in New Zealand, and yet...I'm restless. I see others around me who are enjoying their jobs and what they do for a living and I'm hit with a longing. I want to enjoy the job that I work. But as I seek to find yet another temporary job, I'm hit with a dread. I'm not sure I'll wake up day after day looking forward to going to work. And I don't think I'll come home feeling like I've enjoyed what I just did. Oh, what a pessimistic attitude for a Christian to have! Aren't we as Christians supposed to view our jobs as working for the Lord? Aren't we supposed to be satisfied with with wherever the Lord places us in life? Well, whatever your thoughts about that I know I'm not satisfied. I speak with the Lord about this all the time. No need to lie to Him, He already knows. I wish I could be excited about going to an office job, but something inside me screams, "NOOOO! I DON'T WANT TO WORK IN AN OFFICE!!!" Well, I'll keeping clinging to the Lord to get me through these last few months of work in NZ.

I watch too much TV. What do you do when you're bored waiting for a job to be offered to you and you're tired from the stress of money woes? You veg in front of the TV watching any old talk show, sitcom, movie, or music video that comes across the screen. It's funny to me how many Kiwi, British, and American shows I watch. Especially since I haven't watched real TV since I was in College almost 5 years ago, and even then I hardly watched it as much as I do now. I'm fascinated by the travel shows, I'm amused by some of the British shows, I'm reminiscent about some of the shows from my childhood, and I'm sick of seeing commercials. Speaking of commericials, there are some pretty amusing NZ ones out there. I think my favorite commercial right now is the "Don't Drink and Fry" commercial. It goes somewhat like this: "Everyday many Kiwi blokes go home after drinking and fry --- themselves." This commercial is my favorite not because it's done in any particularly exciting way. It's my favorite because of the message. I've heard of don't drink and drive, but don't drink and fry? I'm not saying this is not a valid issue, because it probably is, in NZ and the US, but it's a funny slogan to me. Maybe America should adopt the slogan "Friends don't let friends drink and fry." Let people ponder that for a bit.

One more thought. I now have less than four months left in NZ. At first, I was sad that my time in NZ would be over, but now I'm kind of looking forward to it. I miss the familiar of America, although I don 't think it'll seem very familiar when I go back. I also miss theater. My heart is longing to get back on a stage, get in a costume, and perform. I also miss my family. I have yet to see my nephew who will be one by the time I return to the US. So many things drawing me home. But still a few that are keeping me here...

First Blog of the New Year

It's a new year.
Let me begin it with a comment about Google. A few days ago I heard on the radio that Google announced the top searches, etc. for the year 2007. Do you know what the top "who is" question asked on google was?
"Who is God?"
This is interesting to ponder. Not only because this was the top "who is" question but because it was the third most searched question for 2007. "What is love?" being the top, and "how to kiss?" the second. Even more interesting is that the question of "who is God?" is actually the answer to the question of "what is love?" God defines love.
So, what does this mean in my life. It means that there are a lot more people in the world who desire to hear the Gospel than I realized. They may not know that when they ask the question "who is God?" (not only on Google, but in their heart), what they really desperately need to hear is that Jesus Christ died for their sins on the cross because of His deep love for them. “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. ~ John 3:16 When I'm tempted to back away from sharing the Gospel with someone I can remind myself that this person may be someone who has or will seek Google for the answer to "who is God?" Why not help them to know the truth?
